Brief History of Broken Ballerina
Jules Thompson broke her cycle of domestic violence after she had endured abuse in the forms of, intimidation, bullying, threats to her life, rape, and more. Jules was to the point where she suffered a nervous breakdown and hospitalised for 6 weeks in a mental health facility.
Jules has written her autobiography called Broken Ballerina and which was published in late 2022.
In 2018, Jules and her husband Peter started Broken Ballerina Foundation and commenced raising funds and awareness for domestic violence survivors. This was Jules’ way of helping victims as she faced her challenges alone and she wanted to help and show them they’re not alone and there is a way out of the cycle of domestic violence.
Broken Ballerina Inc. was started in 2020 because of the number of people in the community wanting support with DV matters but not finding it. Jules receives calls, messages, emails, and messages through social media always 7 days a week. Unfortunately, DV doesn’t only occur during business hours Monday to Friday.
As a result, Jules, Peter, and the committee have now got Broken Ballerina Inc., which is a public Benevolent Institution, registered as a Deductible Gift Recipient, with Charity tax concessions and registered with the QLD government as a charitable institution.
The forms below can assist domestic violence survivors by providing a confidential and safe way to report incidents, seek protective orders, access resources, and document evidence for legal proceedings.
